About the position

The Pharmacy Technician I position at St. Elizabeth Healthcare involves assisting licensed pharmacists in various pharmacy operations, including medication selection, procurement, preparation, and distribution. The role emphasizes excellent customer service and adherence to regulatory guidelines while ensuring the safety and accuracy of medication dispensing. The technician will also engage in inventory management and participate in process improvement initiatives to enhance patient care.

Responsibilities

  • Provide excellent customer service through interactions with doctors, nurses, and patients.
  • Process Epic messages in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Assist pharmacists in the dispensing of medications, including filling medication bins and restocking Pyxis med stations.
  • Ensure timely receipt and delivery of patient medication-related information and products.
  • Properly distribute medications, including controlled substances and time-sensitive medications.
  • Assist in ensuring compliance with regulatory guidelines for medications on nursing units.
  • Participate in the Process Improvement Program and comply with Infection Control and Safety policies.
  • Check expiration dates for medications in Pyxis med stations and rotate stock accordingly.
  • Assist with monthly cycle counts in the inventory management system.
  • Process returns correctly while checking expiration dates before returning items to stock.
  • Begin sterile compounding training and utilize aseptic technique under supervision.
  • Prepare oral syringe medications for critically ill infants in the NICU where applicable.
  • Meet departmental goals for inventory management through appropriate use of the inventory management system.
  • Enhance career development through attendance at departmental meetings and educational in-services.

Requirements

  • High School graduate or equivalent GED.
  • Registered with State Board where Practicing.
  • Nationally Certified (PTCB or NHA) or active Intern license.
  • Typing / Computer Keyboarding skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with MS Office.
  • Understanding of the Metric System and Pharmacy Calculations.
  • IV Admixture Experience.
  • Previous experience as a Hospital Pharmacy Technician.
