About the position

The Pharmacy Technician I position at Prisma Health involves performing pharmacy-related functions under the direction of a pharmacist. This role is essential in providing pharmaceutical care for patients in both acute care and retail settings. Technicians will engage in tasks such as medication order interpretation, inventory management, and sterile compounding, while ensuring compliance with departmental policies and regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Accurately interprets and prepares medication orders by filling provider orders, medication kits/trays, automated dispensing cabinets, and floor stock requisitions.
  • Completes cart fill and code tray refills accurately.
  • Handles all controlled substances in compliance with regulations and policies.
  • Operates the cash register to accept payments for pharmacy products and services.
  • Enters patient charges and credits accurately.
  • Demonstrates proficiency with work-related computer and automation skills, solving problems for automated dispensing cabinets and other pharmacy technologies.
  • Answers the telephone in a timely manner, screens and prioritizes calls, and adjusts priorities to accommodate changes in work demands.
  • Fills, labels, and packages medications and pharmaceuticals correctly.
  • Delivers medications to the appropriate patient care area or department in a timely manner, including STAT medications when required.
  • Adheres to regulatory guidelines for pharmacy compounding of sterile preparations, including appropriate documentation.
  • Maintains a clean and orderly work area and provides excellent customer service.
  • Completes assigned quality assurance work, including expiration checks and inventory checks.
  • Participates in training and mentorship of new pharmacy technicians and interns.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent; OR post high school degree.
  • Registered with SC Board of Pharmacy.
  • Pharmacy Tech Certification required within 18 months of hire date.
  • Thorough knowledge of medical and pharmacy terminology.
  • Good mathematical, computer, and aseptic technique skills.
  • Knowledge of SCBOP/DHEC/DEA rules/regulations.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills in dealing with subordinates, peers, and supervisors.
  • Problem-solving abilities and ability to work in team situations.
