About the position

The Pharmacy Technician I - II at University Hospitals is responsible for assisting pharmacists in the preparation, processing, and distribution of medications for patient administration. This role encompasses various functions in drug distribution that do not require the professional judgment of a pharmacist, ensuring accurate medication delivery and inventory management under pharmacist supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Accurate preparation of patient medications including non-sterile and sterile products.
  • Timely delivery of patient-specific medications.
  • Inventory, replenish, and maintain drug stock.
  • Orient and train new staff.
  • Utilize pharmacy systems to process prescriptions, including insurance adjudication and prior authorization.
  • Prepare dangerous drugs for dispensing, including counting, pouring, labeling, and compounding.
  • Support medication history collection for ED and inpatient units.
  • Communicate effectively with patients to record medication history accurately.
  • Maintain communication with healthcare personnel to report important findings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned and comply with all policies and standards.

Requirements

  • High School Equivalent / GED (Required)
  • Graduate of an accredited pharmacy technician program (Preferred)
  • Prior experience as a pharmacy technician in a hospital or community setting (Preferred)
  • Understanding of metric system and basic math concepts (Required proficiency)
  • Good communication skills (Required proficiency)
  • Knowledge of personal computer, calculator, and facsimile machine (Required proficiency)
  • Basic knowledge of pharmacy computer systems and automated dispensing cabinets (Preferred proficiency)
  • Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT)
  • State of Ohio CPhT license (Required)

Nice-to-haves

  • Graduate of an accredited pharmacy technician program
  • Prior experience as a pharmacy technician in a hospital or community setting
  • Basic knowledge of pharmacy computer systems and automated dispensing cabinets
