About the position

The Pharmacy Technician I position at Stanford Health Care is an entry-level role focused on assisting pharmacists in providing pharmaceutical services, including processing prescriptions and maintaining medication inventory. The technician works under close supervision and is responsible for preparing and compounding medications, ensuring compliance with state regulations, and supporting patient care through effective medication management.

Responsibilities

  • Enters patient medication orders into the pharmacy computer system.
  • Operates automated compounding and dispensing machines for preparation and storage of medications under the direct supervision of a pharmacist.
  • Maintains medication inventory; places and receives stock replacement orders.
  • Prepares, compounds, and labels intravenous admixtures, cancer chemotherapy, and parenteral nutrition patient-specific doses using strict aseptic technique.
  • Prepares, packages, compounds, and labels non-sterile drug products for specific patients with appropriate final pharmacist checks.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Six (6) months of progressively responsible and directly related work experience, or Pharmacy Technician Externship performed at Stanford Hospital and Clinics, Department of Pharmacy.
  • Pharmacy Technician License or Intern Pharmacist License.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of medical terminology and abbreviations.
  • Knowledge of pharmacology and pharmacological nomenclature.
  • Ability to perform routine mathematical calculations accurately.
