About the position

The Pharmacy Tech I position at Prisma Health is a PRN role that involves performing pharmacy-related functions under the supervision of a pharmacist. The technician is responsible for ensuring safe and effective pharmaceutical care for patients, contributing to the pharmacy team, and maintaining compliance with departmental policies and regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Accurately interprets and prepares medication orders by filling provider orders, medication kits/trays, automated dispensing cabinets, and floor stock requisitions.
  • Completes cart fill and code tray refills accurately.
  • Handles controlled substances in compliance with regulations and policies.
  • Operates the cash register to accept payments for pharmacy products and services.
  • Enters patient charges and credits accurately.
  • Demonstrates proficiency with pharmacy-specific technologies and problem-solving for automated dispensing cabinets and inventory management.
  • Answers the telephone in a timely manner, screens and prioritizes calls, and adjusts priorities based on work demands.
  • Fills, labels, and packages medications appropriately.
  • Delivers medications to the correct patient care area or department in a timely manner.
  • Removes and evaluates medications from delivery, return bins, and refrigerators.
  • Adheres to regulatory guidelines for pharmacy compounding of sterile preparations as applicable.
  • Maintains a clean and orderly work area and provides excellent customer service.
  • Completes assigned quality assurance work, including expiration checks and inventory checks.
  • Participates in training and mentorship of new pharmacy personnel.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • No prior experience needed.
  • Pharmacy Technician Certification required within 18 months of hire date.
  • Thorough knowledge of medical and pharmacy terminology.
  • Good mathematical, computer, and aseptic technique skills.
  • Knowledge of SCBOP/DHEC/DEA rules and regulations.
  • Interpersonal skills for dealing with various stakeholders.
  • Problem-solving abilities and ability to work in team situations.
