About the position

The Pharmacy Technician plays a crucial role in supporting the pharmacy team by performing various pharmacy-related functions under the direction of a pharmacist. This position involves interpreting and preparing medication orders, compounding medications, and ensuring compliance with pharmacy regulations and quality assurance standards. The technician is expected to contribute to an efficient work environment while providing excellent customer service and participating in the training of new personnel.

Responsibilities

  • Interpret and prepare medication orders by filling provider orders, medication kits/trays, and automated dispensing cabinets.
  • Accurately complete cart fill and code tray refills.
  • Handle all controlled substances in compliance with regulations and policies.
  • Operate the cash register to accept payments for pharmacy products and services.
  • Enter patient charges and credits accurately.
  • Demonstrate proficiency with pharmacy-related computer and automation skills.
  • Answer telephone calls in a timely manner and prioritize requests appropriately.
  • Fill, label, and package medications and pharmaceuticals correctly.
  • Deliver medications to the appropriate patient care area or department in a timely manner.
  • Adhere to regulatory guidelines for pharmacy compounding of sterile preparations.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly work area and be prepared to start working at the beginning of each shift.
  • Complete assigned quality assurance work, including expiration checks and inventory checks.
  • Participate in the training and mentorship of new pharmacy technicians and interns.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent; OR post high school degree.
  • Pharmacy Tech Certification required within 18 months of hire date.
  • Thorough knowledge of medical and pharmacy terminology.
  • Good mathematical, computer, and aseptic technique skills.
  • Knowledge of SCBOP/DHEC/DEA rules/regulations.
  • Interpersonal skills for dealing with subordinates, peers, and supervisors.
  • Problem-solving abilities and ability to work in team situations.

  • Experience in a pharmacy setting (not required).
