About the position

The Pharmacy Technician II position at Montage Health is a vital role within the pharmacy department, operating under the guidance of the department director and/or the assistant director of pharmacy operations. This position is designed for individuals who are committed to providing quality pharmaceutical care while assisting in various pharmacy department activities that do not require a pharmacist's professional judgment. The technician will be responsible for a range of duties that include maintaining patient records and drug profiles, preparing unit dose medications, and compounding sterile products. Additionally, the role involves performing pharmaceutical calculations, entering data into pharmacy computer systems, and managing automated dispensing devices. The technician will also be involved in sterile IV and non-sterile additive and chemotherapy compounding, ensuring that all activities align with safety protocols and quality standards. The position emphasizes the importance of professional commitment, teamwork, and interpersonal skills. The pharmacy technician must demonstrate a strong understanding of pharmacy operations and maintain good customer relations while being fiscally responsible. The role requires a broad knowledge of pharmacy practices and the ability to work collaboratively with pharmacists to enhance patient care. The technician will also be expected to complete orientation and initial competency assessments before taking on independent assignments, as well as pass all annual competencies to ensure ongoing compliance with state regulations and organizational standards.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in pharmacy department activities not requiring a pharmacist's professional judgment.
  • Maintain patient records and drug profiles.
  • Prepare unit dose medications and sterile products.
  • Perform pharmaceutical calculations and data entry into pharmacy computer systems.
  • Fill and manage automated dispensing devices.
  • Compound sterile IV and non-sterile additive and chemotherapy products.
  • Assist the pharmacist in providing quality pharmaceutical care.
  • Drive company vehicles for medication delivery and Pyxis maintenance as required.

Requirements

  • At least three years of pharmacy technician experience required.
  • Education as required for State of California Pharmacy Technician licensure.
  • State of California Pharmacy Technician license or undergraduate California Pharmacist Intern license is required.
  • National Pharmacy Technician certification preferred and required within the first year.
  • American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS certification preferred and required within the first six months.

Nice-to-haves

  • Hospital experience preferred.
