About the position

The Pharmacy Technician II at Upstate Medical Pharmacy plays a crucial role in providing safe and effective pharmaceutical care under the supervision of a pharmacist. This position involves advanced pharmacy-related functions, including compounding, inventory management, and training new personnel, while ensuring compliance with departmental policies and regulations. The technician is expected to demonstrate leadership development and contribute to a collaborative pharmacy team environment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform pharmacy-related functions in compliance with department policies and procedures.
  • Assist in training pharmacy personnel and provide mentorship to new pharmacy technicians and interns.
  • Interpret and prepare medication orders by filling provider orders, medication kits, and automated dispensing cabinets.
  • Handle all controlled substances in compliance with regulations and policies.
  • Demonstrate proficiency with pharmacy-specific technologies and problem-solving for automated dispensing cabinets and inventory management.
  • Accurately enter patient charges and credits, and deliver medications to the appropriate patient care area in a timely manner.
  • Adhere to regulatory guidelines for pharmacy compounding of sterile and non-sterile preparations, including appropriate documentation.
  • Complete assigned quality assurance work, including expiration checks and equipment cleaning.
  • Provide excellent customer service and maintain a clean and orderly work area.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent; OR post high school degree.
  • Six (6) months experience as a Pharmacy Technician.
  • State Certified Pharmacy Technician with the SC Board of Pharmacy.
  • Knowledge of medical and pharmacy terminology, SCBOP/DHEC/DEA rules/regulations, and good mathematical skills.
  • Proficient computer skills including word processing, spreadsheets, and database management.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in compounding total parental nutrition and pediatric doses.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for dealing with subordinates, peers, and supervisors.
  • Ability to work in team situations and handle urgent, stressful conditions.
