About the position

The Pharmacy Tech II position at The Hospitals of Providence - Trans Mountain Campus is a full-time role that involves assisting in the preparation, packaging, delivery, and charging of medications under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist. This position is critical in ensuring that patients receive their medications accurately and in a timely manner. The Pharmacy Technician will also be responsible for the production of intravenous (IV) medications, adhering to strict policies and procedures to maintain safety and compliance with industry standards such as USP797 and USP800. In this role, the Pharmacy Technician will be expected to accurately fill medication orders, ensuring the correct strength, dosage form, and quantity are provided. It is essential that all medications are checked by a pharmacist prior to dispensing to guarantee patient safety. The technician will respond to various requests, including STAT orders and routine orders, and will manage the restocking of emergency crash carts and automated dispensing cabinets (ADCs) efficiently. Additionally, the technician will prepare and label oral medications and extemporaneous preparations, as well as IV sterile admixture solutions and products, while maintaining cleanliness and organization in the IV room. This position requires a high level of attention to detail and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, as the technician will frequently interact with pharmacists and other healthcare professionals to ensure optimal patient care. The role also involves physical demands such as lifting, standing, and manual dexterity, which are necessary to perform the duties effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Accurately fill medication orders with correct strength, dosage form, and quantity in a timely manner.
  • Assure all medications are checked by a pharmacist prior to dispensing.
  • Respond appropriately to requests for STAT orders, routine orders, department requests, and ADC stock out bulletins.
  • Refill emergency crash carts, boxes, and kits accurately and timely.
  • Accurately stock ADCs in a timely manner.
  • Prepackage and label oral medications and extemporaneous preparations.
  • Prepare IV sterile admixture solutions and IV products accurately consistent with IV policies and procedures (USP797 and USP800).
  • Restock medications in IV room and conform to IV cleaning schedule.

Requirements

  • High School Graduate or equivalent required.
  • Registered Pharmacy Technician license or Pharmacy Technician certification, as required by State law.
  • Accredited training in sterile products preparation required.
  • Preferred: 2 years hospital experience.
