About the position

The Certified Pharmacy Technician II at Carilion Clinic plays a crucial role in supporting the Pharmacist in delivering pharmaceutical care to patients in a hospital setting. This position operates under the lead supervision of a Pharmacist and involves a variety of responsibilities that ensure the effective functioning of the pharmacy department. The technician will routinely interact with a diverse group of individuals, including Pharmacists, other Pharmacy Technicians, nursing staff, physicians, patients, customers, vendors, and drug company representatives. This collaborative environment is essential for providing high-quality care and ensuring patient safety. The role requires the technician to be detail-oriented and customer service-focused, as they will be responsible for maintaining familiarity with a large number of medications and ensuring accuracy in their work. The technician will also need to utilize general office equipment and computer systems effectively, solve simple mathematical and logistical problems, and manage their time efficiently. The position is structured as a night shift role, where the technician will work 7 consecutive shifts from 7 PM to 6 AM, followed by 7 days off. This schedule includes shift and weekend differential pay, making it an attractive opportunity for those seeking a stable work-life balance. Responsibilities

  • Support the Pharmacist in providing pharmaceutical care to patients.

  • Utilize general office equipment and computer systems to manage pharmacy operations effectively.

  • Complete orientation competencies and maintain required certifications.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Successful completion of an approved Pharmacy Technician training course is preferred.
  • Previous pharmacy work experience is preferred, with one year of pharmacy experience required for Registrar I.
  • Registration with the Virginia Department of Health Professionals is required.
  • Nationally Certified Pharmacy Technician is required within 9 months of hire.
  • Ability to maintain attention to detail and accuracy in a fast-paced environment.
  • Customer service orientation and effective communication skills are essential.
  • Knowledge of general office equipment and procedures, including computer/keyboard skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a hospital pharmacy setting is a plus.
  • Familiarity with pharmacy software and medication management systems.
