About the position

The Pharmacy Technician at Cook Children's Medical Center plays a vital role in supporting the pharmacist in delivering professional pharmacy services to both patients and staff. The technician will engage in various clerical tasks, which include answering phones, recording and filing pharmacy activities, and reporting on services rendered. These tasks are crucial for maintaining accurate records and ensuring smooth communication within the pharmacy and with other departments. In addition to clerical duties, the Pharmacy Technician will also be involved in technical tasks that require a certain level of expertise and experience. These tasks will be performed under the direct supervision of an experienced pharmacist, ensuring that all activities meet the required standards of practice. The technician will be expected to demonstrate competency in several pharmacy production areas, including the Central PO area, compounding, narcotics transactions, Omnicell refills, and compliance audits. It is important that the technician has documented training on file before they can work independently in these areas. To qualify for this position, candidates must possess an ACPE IV certification, which is essential for handling intravenous preparations. This certification, along with the required experience and skills, will enable the technician to contribute effectively to the pharmacy team and ensure the safety and well-being of the patients served by Cook Children's Medical Center.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the pharmacist in providing professional pharmacy services to patients and staff.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Must have either 1 year of hands-on IV preparation experience or 1 year of working experience in the Cook Children's pharmacy.
  • Current PTCB Pharmacy Technician Certification is required.
  • Current Texas State Board of Pharmacy Registration is required.
  • ACPE IV certification is required.
