About the position

The Pharmacy Technician II - Specialty plays a crucial role in supporting pharmacists with moderately complex technical and clerical duties essential for the daily operations of the pharmacy. This position is located onsite at the specialty pharmacy in Plano, TX, and is part of the Elevance Health family of companies, which has over 20 years of experience in providing vital infusible and injectable drug therapies. The technician will assist in dispensing medications as per physician orders, ensuring compliance with guidelines and policies, and will be responsible for maintaining inventory levels, checking for expired products, and documenting all activities accurately. The role also involves communication with patients and team members, preparing delivery tickets, and assisting with infusion-related equipment management. The technician must strive to minimize errors, waste, and HIPAA violations while maximizing efficiency in pharmacy operations. This position requires a proactive approach to troubleshooting and problem-solving, particularly in managing delivery and inventory-related tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Assists the pharmacist with dispensing items as per physician orders and valid prescriptions.
  • Checks for expired or unusable products and disposes of them properly.
  • Answers and initiates communications related to providing pharmaceutical care.
  • Prepares delivery tickets for medications and equipment.
  • Assists the patient delivery representative with orders, receiving, maintaining, and tracking infusion-related equipment.
  • Fulfills the duties of the patient delivery representative when required.
  • Follows processes to minimize mis-fills, product waste, and HIPAA violations.
  • Checks and maintains inventory levels; places inventory orders and logs in new inventories.
  • Documents all activities appropriately and completes drug expiration reviews monthly.
  • Assists with inventory-related questions from team members during daily operations and quarterly inventory.
  • Dispenses medications to patients and completes necessary assessments.
  • Ensures timely dispensing for active patients by established cut-off times.
  • May be responsible for overnight deliveries of medications.
  • Troubleshoots pump issues independently without assistance from team members or supervisors.
  • Documents QARs/indicators appropriately in the portal without prompts.
  • Strives for cost-effectiveness in purchasing, inventory control, and staffing delivery services.
  • Maximizes efficiency and productivity of pharmacy and delivery operations.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • Certified Pharmacy Technician course with certificate.
  • Continuing education necessary to maintain current licensure in all states licensed.
  • Minimum 2 years experience as a pharmacy technician with training/experience in alternate site/home health pharmacy practice and preparation of sterile products.
  • Maintain a current pharmacy technician certificate where required by law and/or regulation.
  • Multi-state certification is required if providing services in multiple states.
  • Satisfactory completion of a Tuberculosis test is a requirement for this position.
