About the position

The Pharmacy Technician II position at University Hospitals in Willoughby, OH, is a critical role that supports pharmacists in the preparation and distribution of medications and sterile products for patient administration. This position is essential for ensuring that patients receive their medications accurately and on time. The Pharmacy Technician II will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including the preparation of unit dose medications, IV admixtures, parenteral nutrition, and the management of controlled substances. The technician will also be involved in maintaining drug stock levels, including the replenishment of automated dispensing cabinets, and assisting pharmacists with medication-related issues. This role requires a strong attention to detail and adherence to safety protocols, particularly in the handling of Protected Health Information (PHI).

Responsibilities

  • Assist pharmacists in the retrieval, processing, preparation, and distribution of medications and sterile products.
  • Accurately prepare patient medications including sterile products, chemotherapy, unit dose, cartfills, TPN, and narcotics.
  • Ensure timely delivery and retrieval of patient-specific medications.
  • Inventory, replenish, and maintain drug stock, including automated dispensing cabinets.
  • Assist the pharmacist with medication and patient care-related issues.
  • Perform other duties as assigned and comply with all policies and standards.

Requirements

  • High School Equivalent / GED required.
  • Graduate of an accredited pharmacy technician program required.
  • Prior experience as a pharmacy technician in a hospital or community setting preferred.
  • Understanding of the metric system and basic math concepts required.
  • Good communication skills are essential.
  • Basic knowledge of pharmacy computer systems, TPN compounders, automated dispensing cabinets, calculators, and facsimile machines preferred.
  • Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Prior experience as a pharmacy technician in a hospital or community setting preferred.
