About the position

The Pharmacy Technician position at Blanchard Valley Health System is designed to assist pharmacists in the daily operations of the pharmacy department, which includes inpatient and outpatient areas. The role involves a variety of tasks such as entering and filling prescriptions, performing billing functions, maintaining inventory control, and ensuring the safety and sterility of medications. The technician will also support fellow staff members and contribute to a positive work environment while adhering to safety and quality assurance standards.

Responsibilities

  • Enters and fills prescriptions timely and accurately, files prescriptions according to legal requirements, and prepares billing statements/receipts for pharmacy purchases.
  • Performs pharmacy billing functions and fills and delivers floor stock items/narcotics timely.
  • Fills physician orders both manually and utilizing the robot, delivers medications to nursing units, and retrieves orders received via tube or fax.
  • Maintains a clean work environment and ensures sterility, is competent in IV preparation, and performs required Quality Assurance checks.
  • Maintains inventory control, uses computer software for ordering, and checks in orders accurately.
  • Maintains the integrity and security of medications, routinely checks for outdated products, and performs unit inspections.
  • Maintains pharmacy certification by completing necessary CEUs and is involved in multidisciplinary committees.
  • Supports fellow staff members, maintains a positive attitude, and promotes good relations within the pharmacy team.

Requirements

  • High school graduate with demonstrated Math/Science skills.
  • Completion of a pharmacy technician training program and registration with the Ohio Board of Pharmacy within 6 months of hire.
  • Ability to enter outpatient pharmacy prescriptions into the current computer system.
  • Ability to mix chemotherapy medications and IV products.
  • Ability to correctly bill for medications and perform short jobs with accuracy.
  • Typing and computer skills required.
  • Ability to lift up to 35 pounds and perform various physical activities such as pushing, pulling, climbing, stooping, kneeling, standing, and walking.
  • Positive service-oriented interpersonal and communication skills required.

Nice-to-haves

  • 2 years of experience as a pharmacy technician preferred.
