About the position

The Certified Pharmacy Technician position at Trinity Health is a full-time role that involves attending both didactic and clinical training sessions as outlined in the course curriculum. The technician will receive comprehensive training across various pharmacy departments, including inpatient, outpatient, and medication history, while also observing specialized pharmacy technician duties. This position is crucial in preparing patient medication orders in both outpatient and inpatient settings, ensuring that medications and IV admixtures are delivered to patient rooms, critical care areas, and other ancillary locations. The technician will also be responsible for charging and crediting patient accounts, restocking usable medications and IVs returned to the pharmacy, and utilizing automated medication dispensing machines such as robots, acudose, and pyxis. In addition to these responsibilities, the pharmacy technician will check medication expiration dates, complete assigned unit inspections, and compound and label extemporaneous liquid and solid products for patients according to established procedures. The role also includes answering telephone inquiries and processing requests in accordance with pharmacy protocols. The technician will efficiently assist patients at the point of sale register, handling sales transactions in the outpatient pharmacy, and will be tasked with obtaining and recording initial medication histories for patients upon their admission. This position is integral to the pharmacy's operations and requires adherence to attendance requirements and completion of mandatory training within specified timeframes.

Responsibilities

  • Attend didactic and clinical training sessions as outlined in the Certified Pharmacy Technician course curriculum.
  • Receive training in the inpatient, outpatient, and medication history pharmacy departments and observe other specialized pharmacy technician duties.
  • Prepare patient medication orders in outpatient and inpatient pharmacy settings.
  • Deliver medications and IV admixtures to patient rooms, critical care areas, and other ancillary areas.
  • Charge and credit to the patient and restock usable medications/IVs returned to the pharmacy.
  • Utilize and restock automated medication dispensing machines (robot, acudose, and pyxis).
  • Check medication expiration dates and complete assigned unit inspections.
  • Compound and label extemporaneous liquid and solid products for patients according to procedure.
  • Answer telephone and process requests according to procedures.
  • Accurately and efficiently wait on patients at the POS register and handle sales transactions in the outpatient pharmacy.
  • Obtain and record initial medication histories for patients upon admission.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Must be 18 years of age
  • Registered or eligible to register as pharmacy-technician-in-training with the State Board of Pharmacy Examiners within 30 days of hire date
  • Complete Mandatory Reporter training within 30 days of hire date
