About the position

The Pharmacy Technician position at Aurora St Lukes Medical Center is a full-time role focused on inpatient pharmacy services during the 3rd shift. The technician will be responsible for developing competence in the dispensing and delivery of medications, which includes utilizing the department's information systems, technology, and automation for the effective dispensing and storage of medications. The role requires the technician to prepare non-sterile products in accordance with USP, state, and federal guidelines, ensuring compliance with all legal and regulatory standards. In addition to medication dispensing, the technician will enter medication orders into the computer system and process medication requests. Effective communication is crucial, as the technician will manage phone calls from various stakeholders, including nurses, physicians, and patients. This involves accurately interpreting issues and providing timely resolutions or appropriate hand-offs to other team members. The technician must also adhere to pharmacy procedures and documentation requirements, satisfying all legal, regulatory, and departmental standards. The position requires licensure as a Pharmacy Technician in Wisconsin, or as a Pharmacy Technician Student, along with certification from PTCB or ExCPT within two years of hire. Patient-facing roles may necessitate additional certifications in immunization and non-vaccine injectables. The technician must possess good mathematics skills, attention to detail, and effective communication abilities, both written and verbal. Basic computer skills are also essential for this role.

Responsibilities

  • Develops competence in dispensing and delivery of medications.
  • Develops competence in preparing non-sterile products following USP, state, and federal recommendations.
  • Develops competence in entering medication orders in the computer system and/or processing medication requests via the computer system.
  • Manages phone calls from customers and team members, accurately understanding and interpreting issues, and providing timely resolutions or hand-offs.
  • Complies with legal, regulatory, and accreditation standards, including controlled substance procedures and USP procedures.

Requirements

  • Licensure as a Pharmacy Technician in Wisconsin or as a Pharmacy Technician Student.
  • Certification (CPhT) issued by PTCB or ExCPT within two years of hire, or sooner if required by law.
  • High School Graduate.
  • Good mathematics skills.
  • Attention to details.
  • Good communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills.
  • Basic computer skills.
