About the position

The Pharmacy Technician position at Mayo Clinic involves assisting pharmacists in delivering optimal pharmaceutical care to patients. The role encompasses a variety of responsibilities including medication preparation, inventory management, and compliance with regulatory requirements. Technicians will work in a dynamic environment, ensuring accurate medication distribution and effective communication within the healthcare team.

Responsibilities

  • Assists the pharmacist in providing optimal pharmaceutical care to the patient.
  • Gathers, labels, and distributes medications accurately and efficiently.
  • Packages, prepares, and safely compounds medications including hazardous substances accurately and efficiently.
  • Handles, manages, and distributes controlled substances in compliance with regulatory requirements and department policies; assists with drug diversion surveillance.
  • Assists with maintaining accurate medication inventories and billing of medications.
  • Effectively communicates utilizing established systems and processes.
  • Performs responsibilities and duties of the job in a manner that is attentive to age and ability considerations.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Effectively reads, writes, speaks, and understands English.
  • Possess strong telephone and verbal communication skills.
  • Able to learn technical tasks and follow written and verbal directions.
  • Able to apply math and calculator skills along with a working knowledge of the metric system.
  • Experience with the use of office software computer applications and keyboarding.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a busy environment and pay attention to detail.
  • Proven organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Proven ability to effectively work both independently and in a team environment.
  • Prior experience as a hospital pharmacy technician preferred.
  • No history of drug abuse or misuse; or proof of successful completion of a certified drug abuse rehabilitation program is required.
  • Current registration or eligibility for registration with the Minnesota Board of Pharmacy.
  • National Pharmacy Technician certification within 12 months of hire.

Nice-to-haves

  • Prior experience as a hospital pharmacy technician preferred.
