About the position

The Pharmacy Tech-Medication Access Specialist at Ochsner Clinic Foundation plays a crucial role in assisting healthcare providers by ensuring patients' compliance with their medications and maintaining accurate medication histories. This position involves direct communication with patients, families, and healthcare professionals to document and resolve any discrepancies in medication information, thereby contributing to the overall quality of patient care.

Responsibilities

  • Obtain and clarify patients' home/chronic medication lists.
  • Input patients' home/chronic medication lists into the electronic health record (EHR).
  • Communicate discrepancies identified during the medication history process with the pharmacist and clarify with patients and prescribers as needed.
  • Direct questions or inquiries from patients or families to the appropriate caregivers or staff.
  • Provide high-quality customer service to patients, family members, and care team members.
  • Adapt behavior to the specific patient population, ensuring respect for privacy and effective communication.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • 2 years of experience as a pharmacy technician.
  • Medication History Certificate from the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) must be obtained within 6 months.
  • Proficiency in using computers, software, and web-based applications.
  • Knowledge of pharmaceutical mathematics.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with taking patient medication history.
