About the position

The Pharmacy Technician at Keck Medicine of USC is responsible for preparing and distributing medications for patient consumption under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist. This entry-level position supports the Pharmacy Department by ensuring accurate medication distribution and maintaining compliance with departmental procedures.

Responsibilities

• Works under direct supervision of the pharmacist at all times.
• Performs all aspects of the Omnicell® automated dispensing machines, including refilling cabinets and verifying medications with a pharmacist.
• Maintains cleanliness and orderliness in the work area, pharmacy, and medication rooms.
• Documents log sheets regularly and timely, including refrigerator temperature logs and IV Hood cleaning logs.
• Performs encoding of physician orders with completeness and accuracy, notifying the pharmacist of any orders requiring further interpretation.
• Prepares and dispenses medications, ensuring all are verified by a pharmacist and delivered timely.
• Demonstrates competency in repackaging medications with complete and accurate labeling.
• Demonstrates efficiency and accuracy in IV admixtures and utilizes aseptic techniques.
• Maintains record keeping log of controlled substances and obtains signatures for deliveries.
• Demonstrates competency in the Cerner Millenium PharmNet system for viewing profiles and printing labels.
• Performs floor stock responsibilities with accuracy and completeness.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 6 months experience in a Hospital In-Patient Facility.
• Proficient verbal and written communication skills.
• Demonstrated excellent customer service skills.

Nice-to-haves

• Graduation from an accredited Pharmacy Technician School.
• 5 years experience in a hospital pharmacy setting.
