About the position

As a Pharmacy Technician at Baystate Health, you will play a crucial role in supporting the pharmacy department under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist. Your primary responsibilities will include the preparation, distribution, and storage of pharmaceuticals for patients within the Baystate Medical Center and the broader Baystate Health System. This position requires a commitment to understanding and adhering to the values, policies, and procedures of Baystate Medical Center and its Retail and Ambulatory Pharmacy Services. You will be expected to maintain a high level of knowledge regarding pharmacy operations and to demonstrate a patient-centered approach in all interactions. In this role, you will accept and follow directions from pharmacists, ensuring that patient-specific orders are prepared accurately and efficiently for review. You will assist in maintaining the drug inventory, including controlled substances, and will be responsible for operating and troubleshooting pharmacy equipment and systems. Customer service and teamwork are essential, as you will interact regularly with other healthcare team members and serve as a representative of the pharmacy both inside and outside the department. Your attendance and adherence to the Baystate Health attendance policy will also be monitored closely. The pharmacy technician position is dynamic and may involve various tasks, including processing prescription orders, billing insurance, and handling pharmacy transactions. You will be expected to maintain confidentiality regarding patient information and to demonstrate good moral character, as well as to comply with all legal and ethical standards in pharmacy practice. This role is vital in ensuring that patients receive the medications they need in a timely and safe manner, contributing to the overall quality of care provided by Baystate Health.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the preparation, distribution, and storage of pharmaceuticals under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist.
  • Accurately prepare patient-specific orders for review by a licensed pharmacist.
  • Maintain drug inventory, including controlled substances, and perform cycle counting and updating.
  • Operate and troubleshoot automated dispensing machines and pharmacy computer systems as necessary.
  • Process new and refill prescription orders and accurately bill patients' insurance if applicable.
  • Interact effectively with other members of the healthcare team and serve as a pharmacy representative.
  • Handle incoming calls for the department and manage pharmacy POS/pick-up transactions.
  • Demonstrate commitment to patient-centered delivery of care and maintain confidentiality of patient information.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED is required.
  • Good written, math, verbal, and computer skills are necessary.
  • Ability to work independently and follow directions from pharmacists.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age and have good moral character.
  • Not convicted of a drug-related felony or admitted to sufficient facts to warrant such findings.
