About the position

The Pharmacy Technician - Per Diem at the University of Miami plays a crucial role in the pharmacy department by compounding and dispensing medical prescriptions under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist. This position is essential for ensuring that patients receive their medications accurately and efficiently. The Pharmacy Technician is responsible for a variety of clerical duties that support the department's operations, including receiving and storing incoming supplies, verifying stock levels, and maintaining accurate inventory records through data entry into the computer system. In this role, the Pharmacy Technician will weigh, count, measure, and mix medications as required. They will handle inventory management to ensure that the pharmacy is well-stocked with necessary medications and supplies. The technician will receive written prescriptions, fill prescriptions or refill requests, and verify that all information is complete and accurate before dispensing. Additionally, they will answer telephones, respond to customer inquiries, and assist customers in locating items or referring them to appropriate staff members. The position also involves establishing and maintaining patient profiles and records, transferring medications from vials to sterile and disposable syringes using aseptic techniques, and supplying and monitoring robotic machines that dispense medicine. The Pharmacy Technician will prepare and process medical insurance claim forms and manage insurance claim records, ensuring compliance with university and unit-level policies and procedures while safeguarding university assets. Responsibilities

  • Transfers medication from vials to the appropriate number of sterile and disposable syringes using aseptic techniques.
  • Supplies and monitors robotic machines that dispense medicine into containers.
  • Prepares and processes medical insurance claim forms and handles insurance claim records.
  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Florida Pharmacy Tech License.
  • Minimum 1 year of relevant experience.
