About the position

The Pharmacy Technician - Per Diem at the University of Miami is responsible for compounding and dispensing medical prescriptions under the supervision of a pharmacist. This role includes performing clerical duties, managing inventory, and ensuring the pharmacy is well-stocked. The technician also verifies stock, enters data into the computer for inventory management, and assists customers with their inquiries.

Responsibilities

  • Weighs, counts, measures, and mixes medication.
  • Handles inventory to ensure that the pharmacy is appropriately stocked.
  • Receives written prescriptions, fills prescriptions or refill requests, and verifies that information is complete and accurate.
  • Answers telephones and responds to questions or requests.
  • Fills bottles with prescribed medications, and types and affixes labels.
  • Assists customers by answering simple questions, locating items, and referring them to the appropriate staff.
  • Establishes and maintains patient profiles and records.
  • Transfers medication from vials to the appropriate number of sterile and disposable syringes using aseptic techniques.
  • Supplies and monitors robotic machines that dispense medicine into containers.
  • Prepares and processes medical insurance claim forms and handles insurance claim records.
  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Florida Pharmacy Tech License.
  • Minimum 1 year of relevant experience.
