About the position

The Pharmacy Tech Specialist is a full-time role focused on oncology within Advocate Health. This position requires advanced skills and knowledge in complex pharmaceutical processes, particularly in atypical environments such as hazardous sterile compounding and medication history. The specialist will serve as an expert in their area, ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory standards while providing high-quality patient care and operational support.

Responsibilities

• Perform services and functions within assigned areas requiring advanced skills and knowledge.
• Work in atypical environments such as hazardous sterile compounding and operating rooms.
• Serve as an expert with equipment and technology in specialized areas.
• Problem solve technical issues as they arise in the specialized area.
• Ensure accurate and timely completion of documents and records.
• Identify quality improvement opportunities to enhance patient care.
• Support implementation of operational changes and standardization.
• Participate in specialized work teams, committees, and councils.
• Comply with legal, regulatory, and accreditation standards.
• Collaborate with department leadership to adopt best practices.
• Serve as a resource for pharmacy team members and other departments.
• Train team members in specialized areas and coordinate education and competency development.
• Act as the department liaison to system pharmacy teams.

Requirements

• Pharmacy Technician certification (CPhT) or Pharmacy Technician Certified (ExCPT) to be obtained within 2 years.
• Registered as a Pharmacy Technician in the respective state (WI or IL) prior to start date.
• High School Graduate.
• Typically requires 5 years of experience in a hospital or retail pharmacy technician role.
