About the position

The Pharmacy Technician Specialist plays a crucial role in supporting various pharmacy functions under the direction of a pharmacist. This position is designed to utilize and extend the technician's knowledge and competency while performing technical pharmacy functions across different settings, including Ambulatory Pharmacy, Inpatient Pharmacy, Pharmaceutical Research Center, or Drug Policy Program. Key responsibilities include system support, narcotics management, research assistance, medication assistance programs, and medication reconciliation, all aimed at enhancing pharmacy operations and patient care.

Responsibilities

  • Perform all technician functions specific to the pharmacy space supported.
  • Provide system support including informatics, automated dispense cabinet support, and billing/charging support.
  • Manage narcotics in compliance with regulatory guidelines and maintain inventory management for controlled substances.
  • Maintain and safeguard pharmacy-related trial materials and respond to inquiries from trial administrators.
  • Deliver medications to appropriate patient care areas in a timely manner.
  • Develop policies and procedures for medication assistance workflows and create assistance programs for uninsured patients.
  • Conduct medication reconciliation interviews to construct accurate lists of home medications and document communications with healthcare providers.
  • Support the education and training of pharmacists and pharmacy technicians within their area of expertise.
  • Maintain excellent customer service skills while communicating with various stakeholders across the pharmacy enterprise.
  • Participate in quality assurance and performance improvement projects.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent; OR post high school degree.
  • 2 years experience as a Pharmacy Technician.
  • Certified Pharmacy Technician with the SC Board of Pharmacy.
  • Experience with pharmacy software and information systems.
  • Knowledge of applicable BOP/DHEC/DEA rules and regulations.
  • Excellent communication skills and customer service orientation.
  • Ability to perform work accurately with attention to detail within specified time periods.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with health-system and pharmacy staff members.
  • Ability to handle frequent interruptions and adapt to changes in workload and schedule.
  • Ability to set priorities and solve problems.
