About the position

The Pharmacy Tech Specialist at Penn Medicine plays a crucial role in supporting pharmacy services by assisting in operations management, maintaining medication inventory, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards. This position is integral to the pharmacy department, focusing on technician workflow and providing technical support to pharmacy staff, nursing, and providers. The role offers opportunities for professional growth in a collaborative healthcare environment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform Performance Improvement (PI) activities, including managing Pharmacy dashboard and monthly data collection for various audits.
  • Monitor all narcotic vault activity and report any issues to pharmacy management.
  • Conduct audits, including automated dispensing system audits, to ensure practice standards are followed.
  • Prepare data for discussion at weekly Inventory Management meetings and develop operational plans to manage medication shortages.
  • Manage pharmacy medication recalls and complete monthly report submissions.
  • Assess, prepare, implement, and manage new automation systems to enhance efficiency and patient safety.
  • Prepare and maintain training materials for pharmacy technology and data systems, and train staff on these systems.
  • Demonstrate and oversee the operation and maintenance of automated dispensing devices, optimizing inventory through reports.
  • Facilitate product turnover to minimize waste and assist with medication inventory and ordering.
  • Coordinate meetings with pharmacy technicians and create development plans for workflow improvements.

Requirements

  • Lic-Pharmacy Technician Reg (Required)
  • Certified Pharmacy Technician - PTCB (Required)
  • Current National Certification for Pharmacy Technicians (CPhT) certification required prior to employment.
