About the position

The Specialty Prescription Coordinator at Memorial Hermann is responsible for managing prescription order entry, insurance verification, and the adjudication of claims. This role serves as a key point of contact for patients and healthcare providers, ensuring efficient communication and coordination of pharmacy financial assistance. The position emphasizes high-quality customer service and requires a strong understanding of pharmacy operations and insurance processes.

Responsibilities

  • Enter prescriptions and process claims accurately for new/refill prescriptions.
  • Clarify prescription orders with pharmacists and/or clinicians as appropriate.
  • Conduct insurance benefit investigations to obtain patient eligibility and coverage information.
  • Communicate with patients and caregivers regarding insurance investigations and financial responsibilities.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve billing rejections and rebill claims to appropriate carriers.
  • Submit prior authorization requests and follow up on their status.
  • Confirm and process payment information and assist patients with pharmacy financial assistance forms.
  • Provide customer service through inbound and outbound calls to schedule medication deliveries.
  • Track packages to ensure timely medication delivery to patients.
  • Collect clinical information essential for patient management and notify clinical staff of any patient side effects or requests.
  • Assist with prescription and payer audits in accordance with company policy.
  • Complete and maintain required documentation in pharmacy information systems.
  • Communicate with pharmacy team members to coordinate timely prescription dispensing.
  • Participate in staff meetings and assist with special projects.
  • Maintain productivity rates and meet quality expectations set by management.
  • Comply with all regulatory requirements, including HIPAA/HITECH.
  • Promote individual professional growth and development through continuing education and skills competency.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Licensed as a registered Pharmacy Technician in the State of Texas.
  • Three years of experience in specialty, retail, mail order, or hospital pharmacy.
  • Two years of experience in insurance verification, benefits, and eligibility investigations.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail in task completion and communication with patients and healthcare providers.
  • Ability to efficiently complete multiple daily work assignments independently.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally to solve problems and improve quality and service.
  • Knowledge of medical and pharmaceutical terminology and patient assistance programs.
  • Demonstrated experience in customer service with strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Functional skills with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint).

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in specialty pharmacy or pharmacy benefit management.
