About the position

The Pharmacy Supervisor at HCA Florida Raulerson Hospital plays a vital role in ensuring the delivery of high-quality, efficient patient care. This position encompasses a range of responsibilities, including performing advanced and basic pharmacy technician functions, overseeing the operation of Automated Dispensing Cabinets (ADCs), and fulfilling specialized duties as assigned by the pharmacy management team. The Pharmacy Supervisor is expected to identify critical issues, prioritize workloads, and communicate effectively with appropriate personnel to address any concerns in a timely manner. In this role, the Pharmacy Supervisor will also be responsible for maintaining compliance with facility policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements. This includes providing direction and training to pharmacy technicians, supervising their work to ensure adherence to established standards, and maintaining medication storage and security throughout the organization. The supervisor will conduct audits, monitor quality control, and facilitate continuous improvement processes within the pharmacy department. Additionally, the Pharmacy Supervisor will manage technician scheduling, facilitate training and competency assessments, and ensure compliance with USP 797 and USP 800 standards. This position requires a proactive approach to inventory management, including overseeing daily ADC routines and coordinating with support personnel as needed. The Pharmacy Supervisor will also play a key role in departmental education and the management of the ADC's formulary for new medications, ensuring that all staff are well-informed and compliant with procedures. Responsibilities

  • Identifies critical issues, prioritizes workload and communicates to appropriate personnel any issues in a timely manner
  • Completes all education requirements and/or other activities needed to maintain competency
  • Complies with facility policy and procedures and regulatory requirements
  • Provides direction and training to other technicians as assigned, including onboarding of new staff
  • Assists in the supervision of other technicians to ensure that policies and procedures and regulatory requirements are uniformly and consistently followed
  • Maintains medication storage and security as per regulatory requirements throughout the organization
  • Accurately performs audits (ie anesthesia, overrides, billing, etc.) as assigned
  • Monitors compliance for quality control and performance improvement functions as assigned
  • Optimizes technician workflow and the continuous improvement process
  • Accurately performs and documents monthly medication storage area inspections as assigned
  • Performs and supervises other technicians for administrative billing functions as assigned
  • Performs Technician scheduling as assigned
  • Facilitates the training and competency assessments for all technicians at start and annually (unless otherwise required)
  • Accurately and safely compounds and labels medications and parenteral admixtures
  • Complies with all USP 797 and USP 800 daily/monthly requirements (ie Cleaning laminar airflow cabinets and biological safety cabinets, wearing personal protective equipment, etc.)
  • Performs daily ADC routines as assigned (ie restocks, outdates, discrepancy resolution, loading and unloading, etc.) and provides oversight of these activities for appropriate inventory management
  • Coordinates and communicates with the appropriate support personnel as needed
  • Assists in departmental education, as necessary
  • Manages the ADC's formulary for new medications; communicates with individual ADC users when errors are made and re-educates on correct procedures as part of the continuous quality improvement process

Requirements

  • High School Graduate/Equivalent Required
  • Associate or Bachelor degree Preferred
  • 6 months' experience in personnel management Preferred
  • Minimum of 3 years inpatient hospital experience Required
  • State Board of Pharmacy Registration (if applicable as per State) Required
  • National Pharmacy Technician Certification (PTCB) Required
  • ASHP Sterile Preparation Institutional Training or Similar Required
