About the position

The Pharmacy Technician Trainee is primarily responsible for ensuring guest satisfaction in the pharmacy department. This role involves working under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist to ensure the efficient, safe, and effective operation of the pharmacy. The trainee will engage with guests as they enter the pharmacy, acknowledging and greeting them to build a reputation for exceptional guest service. Responsibilities include handling prescriptions, which involves counting, labeling, and reconstituting medications, as well as managing inventory and medication therapy management in accordance with state laws. Maintaining confidentiality when handling patient records is crucial, as is managing guest charge and delivery records. The trainee will also be responsible for mailing out prescriptions and handling phone calls to and from healthcare providers and guests, all within the scope of their practice and license. Additional duties may be assigned by management as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Acknowledge, greet, and engage guests entering the pharmacy area.
  • Build a reputation for ultimate guest service.
  • Handle prescriptions, including counting, labeling, and reconstituting medications.
  • Manage inventory and medication therapy management as allowed by state law.
  • Maintain confidentiality when handling patient records.
  • Manage guest charge and delivery records.
  • Mail out prescriptions as required.
  • Handle phone calls to and from provider's offices and guests within the scope of practice/license.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED, or actively working towards achieving a high school diploma or equivalent for no more than two years.
  • Active and in good standing pharmacy technician trainee license issued by the Board of Pharmacy of the state(s) in which you are practicing.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and some holidays as required.
  • Retail pharmacy experience is a plus.
  • Ability to complete on-the-job training and pass required exams.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to perform physical aspects of the job including bending, squatting, lifting, climbing, standing, and walking for 8-12 hour periods.
  • Ability to function as a team member and collaborate effectively with others.
  • Ability to accept supervisory coaching related to performance, work habits, and attitude.

Nice-to-haves

  • Retail pharmacy experience is a plus.
