About the position

As a Pharmacy Tech Trainee at Sibley Memorial Hospital, you will embark on a comprehensive training program designed to equip you with the essential skills and knowledge required to excel in the role of a Pharmacy Technician. Under the direct supervision of the program director, instructors, preceptors, and lead technician, you will engage in a structured curriculum that includes didactic learning, simulation exercises, and hands-on experiential components. This training program is aligned with the standards set by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) and the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), ensuring that you receive a high-quality education that prepares you for a successful career in pharmacy. Your responsibilities will encompass a variety of tasks critical to the pharmacy's operations. You will assist in the preparation and packaging of medications, ensuring that they are accurately dispensed and delivered to patients. Maintaining proper inventory levels is also a key aspect of your role, as is keeping meticulous records and documentation to comply with regulatory standards. To successfully complete the program, you will need to accumulate a minimum of 400 credit hours, which will provide you with the practical experience necessary to thrive in a pharmacy setting. Before commencing the training program, you will be required to register with the District of Columbia (DC) Board of Pharmacy as a Pharmacy Technician Trainee. This registration must be displayed prominently in the pharmacy within 30 days of starting the program. Upon successful completion of the training, you will be expected to obtain your Pharmacy Technician registration with the DC Board of Pharmacy and commit to working at Sibley Memorial Hospital for at least one year. Additionally, you will need to achieve certification from the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) within 90 days of completing the training program. Responsibilities

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED certificate required.
  • Achieve a score of 70% or higher on pre-enrollment reading comprehension competency.
  • Demonstrate basic mathematical calculation skills with a score of 70% or higher on pre-enrollment math competency.
