About the position

The Pharmacy Technician position in Cheyenne, WY, is a full-time role responsible for supporting pharmacists in various tasks related to medication management and patient care. The technician will ensure the accuracy of prescription processing, maintain patient medication profiles, and assist in the operation of pharmacy automation and office equipment. This role requires effective communication with healthcare providers and patients, as well as adherence to pharmacy policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret prescriptions for completeness.
  • Identify missing pertinent information and correspond with providers or patients for clarification as needed.
  • Enter correct drug strength, dosage form, directions, quantity, and day's supply into the patient's medication profile per MbM policy.
  • Process prescription refills and electronic prescription renewal requests, with verification by a pharmacist.
  • Read computer screens and select specific drugs/products required to fill a prescription by name, strength, quantity, refill number, and directions.
  • Process patient letters, including return and back-order letters.
  • Work in various queues, including adding new providers to the MbM provider database and working in various specialty pharmacy teams.
  • Operate various types of pharmacy automation and office equipment, including scanners, fax machines, and computer software/hardware.
  • Utilize pharmacy information systems to identify basic therapeutic problems and alert the pharmacist for clinical intervention.
  • Process medications returned to MbM facilities according to policy.
  • Perform call center tasks according to policies and procedures and document oral disclosures in the patient's electronic health record.
  • Report medication errors and quality issues in alignment with the MbM Quality and Safety reporting program.
  • Participate in reviewing medication histories, allergies, adverse drug reactions, and drug therapy compliance with patients and/or significant family members/caregivers.

Requirements

  • Certified by the National Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (at the time of onboarding or within six months).
  • Minimum of six months experience in a retail or hospital pharmacy setting or a graduate of an Academic Technician Training Educational Program.
  • Basic typing and PC computer skills.
  • High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) certificate.
  • Fluency in reading, understanding, speaking, and writing English.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with pharmacy information systems.
  • Familiarity with pharmacy automation and office equipment.
