About the position

The Pharmacy Technician at CARLE works under the direct supervision of a pharmacist to support pharmacy operations, including filling prescriptions, preparing chemotherapy drugs, and assisting with various pharmacy service duties. This role is essential in ensuring accurate medication dispensing and maintaining inventory, while also contributing to the overall mission and goals of the hospital and pharmacy department.

Responsibilities

  • Fill prescriptions accurately and safely under the supervision of a pharmacist.
  • Prepare and label chemotherapy drugs for administration.
  • Fill and deliver Omnicell restock lists.
  • Support the mission, goals, and objectives of the hospital and pharmacy department.
  • Answer, place, and transfer telephone calls courteously, identifying self by name and location.
  • Assist in special projects as assigned by department leadership that do not require clinical decision-making.
  • Train new staff and assist other areas as needed.
  • Calculate appropriate medication doses based on patient demographics.
  • Complete special projects correctly and on time.
  • Fill medication orders accurately and timely, including new or lost doses and floor stock replacements.
  • Perform billing functions, including patient charging and controlled substance charging.
  • Conduct monthly inspections of nursing units and pharmacy areas for expired drugs and maintain proper storage and inventory.
  • Prepare IV products using aseptic technique and proper labeling; perform non-sterile compounding.
  • Restock and replace various trays and kits used throughout the facility.
  • Return medications to stock and reorder medications as needed.
  • Safely use departmental equipment and dispose of waste properly.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Pharmacy Technician certification preferred or required by state regulations.
  • Previous experience in a pharmacy setting is preferred.
  • Knowledge of pharmacy operations and medication dispensing processes.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with chemotherapy drug preparation.
  • Familiarity with Omnicell systems and inventory management.
