About the position

The Pharmacy Technician at Lakewood Health System plays a crucial role in providing quality medication therapy for both inpatients and outpatients. This position is integral to the inpatient pharmacy team, which is responsible for fulfilling medication therapy needs, including comprehensive chemotherapy preparation. The technician will ensure compliance with quality standards and assist in inventory control and medication preparation, all while maintaining a commitment to professional development and competency.

Responsibilities

  • Complete monthly inspections of medication storage areas, documenting findings, and replacing any outdated or unusable items.
  • Adhere to quality standards by collecting data, conducting quality monitoring, and maintaining accurate documentation as required.
  • Manage logs, records, and all required documentation to ensure regulatory and procedural compliance.
  • Restock medication and IV dispensing areas within specified timeframes, accurately and safely repackage bulk medications into unit-dose packages as needed.
  • Assist with ordering, receiving, unpacking, and storing of medications and supplies, ensuring stock levels are maintained and organized efficiently.
  • Prepare sterile medications, including intravenous admixtures, chemotherapy, and parenteral nutrition, adhering to safety and accuracy protocols.
  • Maintain current technician certification and complete all competency assessments and skills evaluations.
  • Attend staff meetings and participate in continuing education, staying informed on the latest procedures and standards in pharmacy operations.

Requirements

  • Registered/qualified to be registered as a pharmacy technician by the Minnesota Board of Pharmacy.
  • Previous sterile compounding experience is preferred.
  • Ability to prioritize based on a dynamic workflow.
  • Attention to detail is essential.
  • Willingness to learn and grow in the profession.
  • Ability to perform mathematical calculations related to sterile compounding.
