The Pharmacy Technician position at Mat-Su Regional Medical Center in Palmer, AK, is a PRN role that operates under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist. The primary responsibility of the pharmacy technician is to compound and dispense medical prescriptions, which include intravenous (IV), oral, and topical therapies. This role requires a high level of proficiency in multitasking, especially in a dynamic inpatient hospital environment where the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently is crucial. In addition to compounding and dispensing medications, the pharmacy technician will perform various clerical duties related to the pharmacy department. These duties include triaging incoming phone calls, reviewing inventory reports, and maintaining daily logs to ensure the smooth operation of the pharmacy. The technician will also be responsible for the medication restocking of Omnicell automated dispensing cabinets, troubleshooting any issues that arise with these systems, and ensuring that all supplies and prescription drug orders are received and restocked appropriately. The pharmacy technician must rely on their experience and judgment to effectively plan and accomplish their goals. This position directly reports to the technician supervisor and ultimately to the director of pharmacy. A high school diploma or equivalent is required, and while a graduate of an accredited pharmacy technician program is preferred, it is not mandatory. Candidates should have 1-2 years of experience in the field or in a related area and must be currently licensed in the state of Alaska. Additionally, candidates must have technician certification or be willing to obtain it within six months of hire.
