About the position

As a Pharmacy Technician in the Nuclear Pharmacy division at Cardinal Health, you will play a vital role in the safe and efficient coordination of pharmacy operations that service various healthcare facilities, including acute care hospitals and oncology practices. Your primary responsibility will be to assist in the preparation and dispensing of radiopharmaceuticals and other medications under the supervision of a licensed Staff Pharmacist. This position requires adherence to strict State and Federal regulations governing the handling of radioactive drugs, ensuring that all processes are compliant and safe for patient use. In this role, you will be trained to perform a variety of tasks, including drawing doses into syringes or vials, preparing prescriptions, and conducting quality assurance tests on instruments and radiopharmaceuticals. You will also be responsible for receiving, documenting, and storing incoming and outgoing pharmaceuticals, maintaining accurate inventory records, and assisting in the labeling of blood cell products. Your duties may extend to clerical tasks such as maintaining daily records and preparing receipts, as well as making deliveries to accounts using company vehicles. The position requires a commitment to customer service, as you will interact with customers to address their questions and concerns. You will work closely under supervision, with all work being reviewed for accuracy, and any deviations from standard procedures needing prior approval from your supervisor. This role is essential in ensuring that the Nuclear Pharmacy operates smoothly and effectively, contributing to the overall mission of Cardinal Health to improve healthcare outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare prescriptions by typing labels and obtaining Staff Pharmacist approval
  • Draw doses into either a syringe or vial
  • Perform quality assurance tests on instruments and radiopharmaceuticals in accordance with Federal, State, Company and manufacturer's guidelines
  • Receive, document, and store incoming and outgoing pharmaceuticals according to the Department of Transportation and Company guidelines
  • Maintain computer inventory and records to ensure proper utilization of materials and accounting for Rx drugs
  • Assist and/or perform in the labeling of blood cell products
  • Perform general laboratory and facility clean up
  • May perform clerical and administrative services including maintenance of daily records, preparation of receipts, report preparation, and maintenance of billing records
  • Make deliveries to accounts with company vehicles as needed
  • Speak with customers and address questions and/or concerns via telephone

Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED or equivalent, or equivalent work experience, preferred
  • Registration with the State Board of Pharmacy, licensure as a Pharmacy Technician preferred
  • Certification may be required
  • Experience as a Pharmacy Technician preferred
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Manual dexterity required for occasional reach, lifting, and holding of small objects
  • Demonstrated manual dexterity to dispense doses
  • Ability to lift containers weighing up to 75 pounds
  • Must hold a valid driver's license in the state in which the pharmacy is located
  • Intermediate computer skills (ability to use computers and tablets)
