About the position

The Pharmacy Technician position in Tehachapi, CA, is a critical role within the healthcare system, focusing on the preparation and management of medications in a hospital setting. The technician will be responsible for preparing IV infusions in both hazardous and non-hazardous environments, ensuring that all procedures comply with safety and quality standards. This role requires a strong commitment to medication safety, as the technician will document any medication errors and maintain quality control standards in accordance with USP regulations. The technician will also assist in cleaning controlled environments within the pharmacy area, adhering to daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning requirements. In addition to preparation duties, the pharmacy technician will utilize closed system transfer devices (CSTDs) during hazardous medication preparation and will be expected to properly dispose of all hazardous waste generated during the compounding process. The role demands a high level of independence, as the technician will perform essential duties and responsibilities with minimal supervision. The technician will also assist with the restocking of pharmaceutical products throughout the hospital, including automated dispensing machines, ensuring that all areas are adequately supplied. This position is a contract role with a pay range of $20-$21 per hour, requiring a minimum of one year of recent experience as a pharmacy technician and a valid Pharmacy Technician License in California. The work schedule is Monday to Friday, with morning shifts expected, totaling approximately 40 hours per week.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare IV infusions in both hazardous and non-hazardous environments.
  • Utilize closed system transfer devices (CSTDs) during hazardous medication preparation or be willing to learn.
  • Properly dispose of all hazardous waste generated during the compounding process.
  • Assist in cleaning all controlled environments within the pharmacy area according to daily, weekly, and monthly requirements.
  • Utilize personal protective equipment appropriately.
  • Perform independently with respect to all essential technician duties and responsibilities.
  • Maintain focus on medication safety and document medication errors.
  • Maintain quality control standards of the clean room(s) in accordance with USP regulations.
  • Assist with the restocking of pharmaceutical products in all areas of the hospital, including automated dispensing machines.

Requirements

  • 1 year of recent experience as a pharmacy technician.
  • Valid Pharmacy Technician License in California.
  • Pharmacy Technician Certification.
