About the position

Virginia Oncology Associates, the largest group of medical professionals in Hampton Roads and Northeast North Carolina devoted exclusively to cancer care and blood disorders, is seeking an Admixture Tech to support our Virginia Beach location. This position plays a crucial role in preparing medication orders by admixing medications under the supervision of a physician, ensuring that all dosage volumes are calculated correctly. The Admixture Tech will be responsible for checking all orders for completeness of information, verifying patient information, and ensuring proper physician authorization before proceeding with the admixture process. In addition to preparing medication orders, the Admixture Tech will also check all orders for insurance approval prior to admixture. Proper disposal of all materials used when mixing chemotherapy or non-chemotherapy IVs is essential, as is the daily cleaning of the hood in accordance with established policies and procedures. The role requires logging and dating all drugs being used, checking drugs for monthly expiration dates, and performing other quality assurance activities as assigned. Maintaining proper control documentation of medications and completing inventory control of medications are also key responsibilities. The Admixture Tech will perform efficient data entry into the systems used for admixture and will be responsible for ordering medication and supplies as directed. This position is vital to ensuring the safe and effective preparation of medications for our patients, and it requires a detail-oriented individual who can work under pressure while adhering to strict safety protocols.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares medication orders by admixing medications under the supervision of a physician, calculating correct dosage volumes.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Three to five years experience in a pharmacy with IV skills preferred.
  • IV certification strongly preferred.
  • Experience with Lynx, Epic, Pyxis, Omnicell is preferred.
  • Certified Pharmacy Technician certificate or State Pharmacy Board preferred.
  • Willing to travel between offices as needed.
