About the position

The Pharmacy Technician at UMass Memorial Health Care plays a crucial role in supporting the pharmacy department by managing medication dispensing, inventory control, and ensuring compliance with established policies and procedures. This position requires a commitment to exceptional patient care and teamwork within a dynamic healthcare environment.

Responsibilities

• Obtain and maintain knowledge of the Department of Pharmacy at Marlborough Hospital.
• Demonstrate knowledge of automated dispensing machines and restock them as needed.
• Process charges for medications into the pharmacy computer system accurately and timely.
• Perform aseptic compounding of parenteral admixtures and other sterile dosage forms.
• Maintain inventory in the pharmacy and automated dispensing machines, monitoring expiration dates.
• Participate in departmental continuous quality improvement programs and implement changes as needed.
• Train and orient new pharmacy employees upon request.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Licensed by MA Board of Pharmacy required.
• CPhT certification required within the first 90 days.
• Familiarity with drug brand and generic names.
• Knowledge of admixing sterile intravenous products.
• Previous experience in a hospital pharmacy setting (minimum of 500 hours as a pharmacy technician trainee) or equivalent.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with pharmacy computer systems.
• Knowledge of inventory management practices.
