About the position

The Registered Pharmacy Technician III at University Hospital plays a crucial role in the pharmacy operations, providing essential support to pharmacists in their daily tasks. Under the supervision of professional staff, the technician will ensure that all assignments are completed in a timely manner, contributing to the overall effectiveness of the pharmacy team. In this position, the technician will engage in various pharmacy operations, which may include preparing and dispensing medications, managing inventory, and maintaining accurate records. The ability to communicate effectively with both pharmacy staff and other healthcare professionals is essential, as the technician will often be the point of contact for medication-related inquiries. The Registered Pharmacy Technician III is expected to adhere to all regulatory and safety standards, ensuring compliance with the Texas State Board of Pharmacy regulations. The technician will also be involved in continuous professional development, keeping abreast of new medications, technologies, and best practices in pharmacy operations.

Responsibilities

• Perform a variety of duties required in pharmacy operations.
• Assist pharmacists in the accomplishment of their duties.
• Ensure competent, efficient, and timely performance of assignments within the Pharmacy Department.
• Engage in preparing and dispensing medications.
• Manage inventory and maintain accurate records.
• Assist in the training and supervision of less experienced staff.
• Communicate effectively with pharmacy staff and other healthcare professionals.
• Adhere to regulatory and safety standards as per Texas State Board of Pharmacy regulations.

Requirements

• Graduation from high school/GED required or equivalent experience.
• Current pharmacy technician licensure from the Texas State Board of Pharmacy is required.
• Four or more years of experience as a registered pharmacy technician (RPhT) is required.
• Pharmacy technician must meet career ladder requirements as per designated work location.
• Completion of college or commercial school courses in basic sciences, mathematics, business, or related areas is preferred.
• Completion of a technician training program is preferred.
• Designated cash handlers must complete the Patient Services Cashier course and be designated as a Patient Services Cashier during the initial probationary period.
