About the position

The Pharmacy Technician works under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist in a float position within the pharmacy department. This role is essential for providing primary health care services, ensuring patient confidentiality, and assisting in the preparation and dispensing of medications.

Responsibilities

• Greet patients and answer telephone inquiries in a courteous and professional manner.
• Ensure patient confidentiality and provide necessary information to patients.
• Assist the pharmacist in providing effective and safe pharmacy services.
• Prepare prescriptions under the supervision of the pharmacist.
• Handle legend drugs and devices, including receiving shipments and stocking shelves.
• Receive verbal requests from patients for available refills.
• Select legend drugs and devices for prescription preparation from available stock.
• Enter prescription information into the computer, including drug allergies.
• Label prescription containers appropriately and check for drug outdates.
• Process new prescription medication sales transactions after pharmacist counseling.
• Process medications returned for credit according to facility policies.
• Discard expired returns according to facility policies.
• Collect funds for prescriptions and assist in daily audit reconciliation.
• Assist in patient assistance programs and participate in quality assurance activities.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and orderly work environment.

Requirements

• Valid Registered Pharmacy Technician license in South Carolina.
• Valid Pharmacy Technician Certification certification.
• High school diploma or GED.
• One year of experience in a related medical or pharmaceutical area.
• Good typing, computer, and organizational skills.

Nice-to-haves

• Bilingual skills are a plus.
• Ability to interact effectively with patients and community resources.
