About the position

The University of Virginia Health System is seeking an entry-level Pharmacy Technician to join our team in Charlottesville, VA. This position involves preparing and delivering medications to patients and nursing units under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist or licensed independent practitioner. The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to competently work in both general and specialized areas of pharmacy practice, ensuring that all policies and procedures are followed consistently. The role also includes participating in the training of new employees, filling and delivering medications, and ensuring that adequate supplies are available for continuous patient care. In this position, the Pharmacy Technician will triage and escalate any questions or issues that fall outside their scope of practice to the staff pharmacist or supervisor as needed. The technician will utilize appropriate systems for processing patient information and will be responsible for maintaining quality assurance according to departmental and legal requirements. Additionally, the technician will operate pharmacy equipment appropriately and may be assigned other duties as necessary. This role is critical in supporting the pharmacy team and ensuring that patients receive the highest quality of care. The compensation range for this position is $20.68 - $32.05 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications. Candidates must meet the minimum requirements, including a high school diploma or equivalent, at least six months of relevant experience, and the necessary licenses and certifications to practice as a Pharmacy Technician in Virginia.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • High School Graduate or Equivalent
  • Minimum of 6 months relevant experience required
  • Commonwealth of Virginia Pharmacy Technician Registration required
  • CPhT credential through National Healthcareer Association (NHA) or Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) required.
