It is crucial to ensure that adequate supplies are available for continuous patient care, and any questions or issues that fall outside the pharmacy technician's scope of practice must be triaged and escalated to the staff pharmacist or supervisor as necessary. The technician will also be responsible for using appropriate systems for processing patient information and maintaining quality assurance in accordance with departmental and legal requirements. Operating pharmacy equipment correctly is also a key responsibility, and the technician may be assigned additional duties as needed. The compensation for this position ranges from $20.68 to $32.05 per hour, reflecting the importance of the role within the healthcare team.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrates the ability to competently work in the sterile compounding areas of pharmacy practice.
• Participates in the training of new employees.
• Fills and delivers medications under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist/licensed independent practitioner.
• Follows policies and procedures consistently.
• Ensures adequate supplies are available for continuous patient care.
• Triages and escalates any questions or issues outside the pharmacy technician scope of practice to the staff pharmacist or supervisor as needed.
• Uses appropriate systems for processing of patient information.
• Ensures quality assurance is maintained according to departmental and legal requirements.
• Operates pharmacy equipment appropriately.

Requirements

• High School Graduate or Equivalent
• Minimum of 6 months relevant experience required
• Commonwealth of Virginia Pharmacy Technician Registration required
• CPhT credential through National Healthcareer Association (NHA) or Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) required.
