About the position

Texas Oncology is seeking a full-time Pharmacy Technician to support its Bedford location. This role involves preparing medication orders, maintaining inventory control, and ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards. The position operates Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 5 pm, with no weekend or holiday shifts. The ideal candidate will be passionate about patient care and able to work effectively within a team.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare medication orders by compounding or admixing medications under supervision of a registered pharmacist.
  • Check all orders for completeness of information and verify patient information and proper physician authorization.
  • Check all orders for insurance approval before admixing.
  • Admixer drugs as ordered by physician in an accurate and timely manner as per department guidelines.
  • Calculate correct dosage volumes, converting between metric and apothecary equivalents.
  • Maintain indigent patient drug program as needed.
  • Count controlled drugs weekly and maintain records.
  • Maintain current drug information and MSDS sheets.
  • Properly dispose of all materials used when mixing chemo or non-chemo IVs.
  • Clean hood daily as stated in policy and procedures.
  • Log and date all drugs that are being used.
  • Check drugs monthly for outdates and keep accurate temperature logs.
  • Maintain proper control documentation of medications, including lot numbers and all other quality assurance activities.
  • Complete inventory control of medications, order supplies and medications, and receive and shelve medications.
  • Prepare labels, file, and prepare billing.
  • Understand department automation, data entry, and report generation.
  • May provide direction/guidance to lower level Pharmacy Technician staff.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent for Level 1.
  • Entry level to three years experience in a pharmacy for Level 1.
  • IV certification preferred for Level 1.
  • Minimum three to five years experience in a pharmacy with I.V. skills for Level 2.
  • Certified Pharmacy Technician certificate or State Pharmacy Board requirement recommended for Level 2.
  • Minimum five to seven years of experience in a pharmacy with I.V. skills for Level Sr.
  • Oncology background preferred or extensive I.V. preparation experience for Level Sr.
  • Completion of an ASCP accredited program or community college-based program recommended for Level Sr.
