The Pharmacy Technician Compounding position at Methodist Hospital Specialty and Transplant involves performing duties under the direct supervision of a pharmacist, focusing on the processing, preparation, and dispensing of patient medication orders. This role emphasizes sterile compounding preparation, including hazardous drug preparation, and requires adherence to professional standards and practices.

Responsibilities

  • Accurately fill medication orders in the pharmacy.
  • Safely compound and label medications and parenteral admixtures.
  • Compound sterile preparations, including chemotherapy and total parenteral nutrition.
  • Perform required calculations accurately.
  • Utilize aseptic techniques in the preparation of parenteral compounding.
  • Comply with all USP 797 requirements for cleaning and safety.
  • Obtain a final check from the pharmacist before releasing any prepared compounds.
  • Process medication returns and restocking to the pharmacy.
  • Accurately package and prepare medications for dispensing.
  • Transport medications and pharmacy supplies in a timely manner while maintaining proper storage and security.
  • Perform daily ADC routines such as restocks and discrepancy resolution.
  • Replenish ADCs and emergency cart trays accurately and timely.
  • Troubleshoot ADC issues and perform build and set up functions.
  • Adjust medication min/max PAR levels under direction.
  • Provide basic technical support for automated dispensing machines and pharmacy computer systems.
  • Perform routine manufacturing and prepackaging while maintaining accurate logs.
  • Ensure that a pharmacist checks all work before finalizing.
  • Receive and check in medication/supply orders.
  • Notify the pharmacy inventory manager of reorder needs and product issues.
  • Assist in managing drug supplies cost-effectively and minimize waste.
  • Identify critical issues, prioritize workload, and communicate timely with personnel.
  • Interact politely and respectfully with hospital personnel in person and by phone.
  • Perform unit/area inspections and expiration date checking when scheduled.
  • Prepare all necessary work records for the day, including cleaning documentation and reports.
  • Comply with ongoing processes to monitor outdates.

Requirements

  • Pharmacy Technician License
  • Pharmacy technician experience
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Registered Pharmacy Technician
  • Pharmacy Technician Certification
  • Hospital experience
  • Compounding medications experience

Nice-to-haves

  • One year minimum sterile compounding experience preferred
