About the position

The Pharmacy Technician Inpatient position at Intermountain Health involves assisting pharmacists in providing safe and effective pharmaceutical care. Responsibilities

  • Assists with all phases of pharmacy services under the supervision of a pharmacist.
  • Answers phones and prepares medications for dispensing.
  • Utilizes pharmacy technology effectively to distribute medications.
  • Accurately fills and maintains medication supplies in the automatic dispensing system.
  • Packages and labels medications accurately to minimize waste.
  • Verifies and monitors controlled substance inventories as required.
  • Compounds medications in accordance with state law and policy.
  • Prepares medication orders including chemotherapy and IV admixtures according to established protocols.
  • Maintains appropriate records as required by regulation and policy.
  • Ensures pharmacy cleanliness and orderliness.
  • Assists the pharmacist in collecting clinical and other patient information.
  • Effectively manages pharmacy inventory for security and accuracy.
  • Escalates items to the pharmacist for review based on urgency and regulations.
  • Completes advanced tasks as assigned by management.
  • Participates in quality and patient safety initiatives.
  • Promotes the mission, vision, and values of SCL Health.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Pharmacy technician certification (CPhT) through PTCB or EXcPT is required.
  • Successful registration/certification/licensure with the state as a Certified Pharmacy Technician is required.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and diplomatically within a multi-functional team.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to function in a fast-paced, service-oriented environment.
  • Competent in understanding and usage of computers and software programs.

Nice-to-haves

  • Associates or bachelor's degree is desirable.
  • Technician training is preferred.
  • BLS certification is preferred.
  • Two years working as a certified pharmacy tech in a hospital or infusion pharmacy setting is preferred.
