About the position
The Pharmacy Technician plays a crucial role in supporting the pharmacist by handling technical functions within the pharmacy. This position is essential for ensuring that patients receive pharmaceutical care efficiently and effectively. The technician is responsible for transcribing prescriptions, managing inventory, and providing excellent customer service, all while maintaining a professional and confidential environment.
Responsibilities
- Greets and assists patients/customers in person and on the phone in a professional and confidential manner
- Communicates effectively with colleagues and customers, adjusting style as needed
- Represents MercyOne Pharmacies in a courteous, friendly, and caring manner
- Performs duties with flexibility, adapting to changing schedules and customer needs
- Operates cash register accurately, handling cash, credit card, and in-store charges
- Assists with all aspects of inventory control, including ordering, receiving, stocking, and returning medications
- Checks pharmacy stock shelves for outdated drugs and assists with annual inventory counts
Requirements
- A high school diploma or equivalent is required
- Completion of Pharmacy technician training course and/or Certification preferred
- Registration with the Iowa Board of Pharmacy as a Technician Trainee or Certified Pharmacy Technician required prior to employment
- National certification must be acquired and maintained from the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or the National Health Career Association
