About the position

The Pharmacy Technician / Pharm Tech Apprenticeship at Walgreens is designed to transition pharmacy technicians from a transaction-based environment to a patient-centric role. This position emphasizes customer interaction and relationship building while providing the necessary training and support to become a certified pharmacy technician. The apprenticeship program is recognized by ASHP and the Department of Labor, offering a pathway to a career in healthcare with a focus on skill development and certification.

Responsibilities

• Assist the pharmacist in the practice of pharmacy under direct supervision.
• Use pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions.
• Engage customers and patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services.
• Model and share customer service best practices with team members.
• Assist in the practice of pharmacy in accordance with state, federal, and company policy.
• Perform duties assigned by Pharmacy Manager, Staff Pharmacist, and Store Manager.
• Report prescription errors to the pharmacist on duty immediately.
• Register all related sales on assigned cash register and handle cash as required.
• Process manual claims for third party program prescription services in a timely manner.
• Assist in inventory management activities, including ordering and unpacking pharmaceuticals.
• Assist pharmacist in administering clinical services as required.
• Maintain good relationships with the local medical community through outreach efforts.

Requirements

• Must be fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English.
• Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.

Nice-to-haves

• Six months of experience in a retail environment.
• Prior work experience with Walgreens.
• Good math skills for accurately filling prescriptions.
• Good computer skills.
• Knowledge of store inventory control.
• PTCB certification.
