About the position

As a Walgreens Pharmacy Technician or Pharmacy Technician Apprentice, you will play a crucial role in transforming the pharmacy experience from a transaction-based environment to a more patient-centric one. This position places you at the forefront of customer interaction, allowing you to develop strong relationships with patients while providing essential pharmacy services. Walgreens is committed to supporting your career growth through its "earn while you learn" Pharmacy Technician Training Program, which is recognized by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) and the Department of Labor. This apprenticeship program serves as an entry point into the healthcare field, guiding you towards becoming a Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) Certified Pharmacy Technician, a credential that is both nationally recognized and portable, enhancing your career advancement opportunities. In this role, you will assist the pharmacist under direct supervision, performing various pharmacy department duties in compliance with state and federal regulations. You will be responsible for utilizing pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information, processing prescriptions, and ensuring accurate information entry. If you are PTCB certified, you will also have the opportunity to assist and coach other pharmacy technicians and cashiers. Your primary focus will be on delivering a distinctive and delightful customer experience, engaging with customers, resolving issues, and modeling best practices in customer service. You will also assist in operational tasks such as filling prescriptions, verifying medications, and maintaining workflow under the guidance of the pharmacist. Reporting any prescription errors immediately and adhering to company policies regarding Good Faith Dispensing is essential. Additionally, you will handle cash register operations, assist customers in locating products, and manage telephone calls that do not require the pharmacist's attention. Your role may extend to supporting inventory management activities and assisting in clinical services, including sample collection and coordination with healthcare providers. Training and personal development are key components of this position. You will be required to earn and maintain PTCB certification and participate in ongoing training and education to stay updated on healthcare and pharmacy developments.
