In this role, you will assist pharmacists under direct supervision, ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations while performing various pharmacy duties. Your responsibilities will include using pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information, processing prescriptions, and coaching other pharmacy technicians. You will also engage with customers, providing exceptional service and resolving any issues they may encounter. The position requires a strong commitment to customer experience, operational excellence, and adherence to company policies and procedures. As part of your training and personal development, you will be expected to earn and maintain PTCB certification and participate in ongoing education to stay updated on the latest healthcare and pharmacy developments. This apprenticeship not only prepares you for a rewarding career in pharmacy but also qualifies you for college credit hours recognized by the American Council on Education (ACE).

Responsibilities

  • Assist the pharmacist in the practice of pharmacy under direct supervision.
  • Use pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions.
  • Engage customers and patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services.
  • Model and share customer service best practices with team members.
  • Fill prescriptions by retrieving, counting, and pouring pharmaceutical drugs, verifying medicine is correct, and checking for possible interactions.
  • Report prescription errors to the pharmacist on duty and adhere to company policies regarding pharmacy errors.
  • Register all related sales on assigned cash register and handle cash as required.
  • Assist in inventory management activities, such as ordering, unpacking, checking, and storing shipments of pharmaceuticals.
  • Assist pharmacists in administering clinical services, including the collection and proper labeling of blood/urine samples from patients.
  • Develop and maintain good relationships with the local medical community, including physicians and other healthcare providers.

Requirements

  • Must be fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English.
  • Ability to assist pharmacists in the practice of pharmacy in accordance with state and federal regulations.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to engage with customers and patients effectively.
  • Detail-oriented with good problem-solving skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Six months of experience in a retail environment.
  • Prior work experience with Walgreens.
  • Good math skills for accurately filling prescriptions, including counting, measuring, and weighing medications.
  • Good computer skills and knowledge of store inventory control.
  • PTCB certification.
