About the position

As a Pharmacy Technician or Pharm Tech Apprentice at Walgreens, you will play a crucial role in the healthcare system, providing essential support to pharmacists and ensuring that patients receive the best possible care. This position is designed for individuals who are eager to learn and grow within the pharmacy field, offering a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience while pursuing certification as a Pharmacy Technician. The apprenticeship program is recognized by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) and the Department of Labor, allowing you to earn while you learn. You will be equipped with the necessary tools and resources to advance your career in healthcare, including training in the latest pharmacy technologies and practices. Your daily responsibilities will include interacting with customers, assisting with prescription processing, and maintaining a patient-centric approach to service. You will work under the supervision of licensed pharmacists, helping to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations while delivering a distinctive customer experience. This role emphasizes the importance of building strong relationships with patients and providing them with the support they need to manage their health effectively. In addition to your customer service duties, you will also be involved in various operational tasks, such as inventory management, processing claims, and maintaining the pharmacy's cleanliness and organization. The position requires a commitment to ongoing education and professional development, as you will be expected to earn and maintain your Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) certification. This apprenticeship not only prepares you for a rewarding career in pharmacy but also provides you with valuable skills and knowledge that can be applied in various healthcare settings.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the pharmacist in the practice of pharmacy under direct supervision.
  • Use pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions.
  • Engage customers and patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services.
  • Model and share customer service best practices with team members.
  • Assist in filling prescriptions by retrieving, counting, and pouring pharmaceutical drugs.
  • Report prescription errors to the pharmacist on duty immediately.
  • Register all related sales on assigned cash register and handle cash as required.
  • Process manual claims for third-party prescription services in a timely manner.
  • Assist with inventory management activities, including ordering and unpacking pharmaceuticals.
  • Assist in administering clinical services, including collecting and labeling blood/urine samples from patients.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly pharmacy department and ensure adequate supplies are stocked.

Requirements

  • Must be fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to engage with customers and team members.
  • Detail-oriented with a focus on accuracy in filling prescriptions and processing information.

Nice-to-haves

  • Six months of experience in a retail environment.
  • Prior work experience with Walgreens.
  • Good math skills for accurately filling prescriptions.
  • Good computer skills for operating pharmacy systems.
  • Knowledge of store inventory control.
  • PTCB certification.
