This apprenticeship program serves as an entry point into a rewarding career in healthcare, guiding you through the steps necessary to become a Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) Certified Pharmacy Technician. The program is designed to equip you with the skills and knowledge required to excel in the pharmacy care industry, ensuring you maintain a high level of competency. In this role, you will assist the pharmacist under direct supervision, performing various pharmacy department duties in accordance with company policies and procedures. You will be responsible for using pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information, process prescriptions, and assist with coaching pharmacy technicians and cashiers. Your responsibilities will also include engaging with customers, resolving issues, and ensuring a positive customer experience. You will assist in maintaining workflow, reporting prescription errors, and adhering to company policies regarding dispensing activities. Additionally, you will support inventory management activities and assist in clinical services as required, all while developing and maintaining relationships with the local medical community.

Responsibilities

• Assist the pharmacist in the practice of pharmacy under direct supervision.
• Use pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions.
• Engage customers and patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services.
• Model and share customer service best practices with team members.
• Assist in scheduling and maintaining workflow in the pharmacy.
• Report prescription errors to the pharmacist on duty immediately.
• Register all related sales on the assigned cash register and handle cash as required.
• Process manual claims for third-party program prescription services in a timely manner.
• Assist in inventory management activities, including ordering and unpacking pharmaceuticals.
• Assist the pharmacist in administering clinical services as required.

Requirements

• Must be fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English.
• Ability to assist the pharmacist in various pharmacy duties under supervision.
• Basic computer skills to operate pharmacy systems effectively.
• Good math skills for accurately filling prescriptions.

Nice-to-haves

• Six months of experience in a retail environment.
• Prior work experience with Walgreens.
• Knowledge of store inventory control.
• PTCB certification.
